How much should I tip?
I received a gift certificate for a free one-hour massage. Their website says that they charge $95 for that service. My question is: do I give a full tip (about $20) or can I get away with a little less?
I don’t ever intend to go back to this place, so in theory I could just feign ignorance and walk out. But that’s a dickish move and I wouldn’t do that.
I think you’re supposed to tip as though you’ve paid the normal amount, but I’ve had this gift cert lying around for over a year (it’s still good, I checked) simply because I generally can’t afford luxuries like that. However, my muscles got a good workout at a sporting event and now my body is hurtin’, not just my wallet.
You should tip the full amount. You are getting a service provided @ no cost to you so the proper thing to do would be to not stiff the masseuse on her tip.
Some people rely on tips to make up for what they don’t get in their paycheck. I just think it is rude to not tip the full amount because you don’t plan to go there again.
The tip should be around $15 if you do a 15% tip which is the standard for spas and salons.
