The Light Sport Aircraft is considered as one of the smallest aircrafts that are very easy to fly. This model is also able to meet the standards of the national aviation authority in terms of performance and weight of the light aircraft. The different agencies dedicated to monitoring the safety of the aircrafts that are created and made available in the market have their own ways of defining a light-sport aircraft. Just like for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in Australia defines the light aircraft to be lighter-than-air or can be heavier-than-air craft. Maximum gross takeoff weight of below 560 kilogram for the lighter-than-air craft and 600 kilogram for a heavier-than-air craft should be present on the plane to be considered as a light aircraft.

All the aircraft that have been qualified to be considered as LSA can operate only with a Sport Pilot certificate. The different types of pilot that holds certificates like recreational, private or any other higher certificate holder may fly the LSA. This doesn’t require a medical certificate as long as they have a driver’s license to prove that they are still in good enough health to fly the plane. This kind of aircraft is less restrictive in the maintenance requirement. All LSA should be maintained and inspected by the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians traditionally certificated. Or it can also be an individual that holds a Light Sport Repairman certificate.

There are different types of aircraft that is certified as a LSA. For example the rotorcraft, airplanes that is gliders and powered, powered parachutes, lighter-than-air craft and weight shift aircraft. As long as they fall within the weight limit of the LSA guidelines they can also be considered as LSA. In some country the definition of a LSA slightly defers with the MTOW that reaches up to 1320lbs. the US FAA has a separate definition of an ultra light aircraft that was defined in the Federal Aviation Regulation.

It is important to check for the complete certification of the LSA before flying or deciding on buying it. Make sure that it has thoroughly checked so that you don’t have to worry about your safety. This is the best aircraft to use for fun and recreation. There are some that fly LSA to compete. This will determine the skills that the pilot has without the help of any modern gadgets. It is also a good activity to share with the whole family.
